Three Methods to Check iPhone Purchase Date and Warranty Status

Date

When you get a new iPhone or iPad, or after you've been using it for a while, you might want to check its purchase date and warranty status. Good news – Apple products like iPhones and iPads automatically register for warranty when they're activated online. So, how do you check your current warranty status? If you've just bought a new device, it's a good idea to check if it's still under the one-year warranty. That way, you can get free repairs if anything goes wrong during that time.

Three Ways to Check iPhone Purchase Date, Product Warranty, and Original Factory Repair History

Whether you're rocking an iPhone, iPad, or any other Apple device, you can easily check your warranty status using these three methods:

  • Checking Directly Through an iOS Device

This feature only works on iOS 13 and later:Just head to your iPhone's Settings > General and tap on 'About'.
Settings > General and tap on 'About'
Once you're in the 'About' page, you'll see your 'Coverage Expired' expiration date (or 'Expired' if it's over). Tap on it for all the juicy details, like whether your hardware and tech support are still covered. Usually, you get a year of free repairs and service warranty after you activate your iOS device.
  • Checking Through the Apple Support App
First, grab the 'Apple Support' app from the App Store.

Once you open it, you'll see a menu with your current device info. To check your warranty, tap 'Device Details' and you'll find the expiration date, your model, version, and serial number. If you've had any repairs in the last 90 days, they'll show up at the bottom too.
Want to check other Apple products? Just go back to the previous page and you'll see all the devices linked to your Apple ID. Tap on any device, hit 'Device Details,' and you can check its warranty status. For example, my old iPhone X shows 'Your warranty should be expired.
  • Checking Through the "Check Service and Support Coverage" Website
If your iPhone or iPad is playing hard to get and won't turn on, you can still check its warranty status online. Just fire up your computer or another device, head over to the 'Check Service and Support Coverage' page, and enter your iPhone's serial number.
You'll see your iPhone's warranty status, and if it says 'Repairs and Service Coverage: Active,' you're in luck! You can get free repairs or even a replacement device.
How iPhone Warranty is Calculated
Whether it's your iPhone, iPad, or any other Apple gadget, the warranty clock starts ticking from the day you activate it. That includes chargers, cables, and even those freebie earbuds! But if you buy it and don't turn it on or connect to the internet, the warranty won't start yet.
Now, here's a little twist: if you buy from the Apple Store online or an official Apple brick-and-mortar store, the warranty usually starts from the 'ship date.' But if you buy from an Apple authorized reseller, a phone company, a mobile shop, or even online, your warranty starts from the date on your receipt.
