3 Tips for Proper Phone Charging to Extend Your iPhone's Lifespan

Date

A phone repair whiz who's seen it all says we're charging our phones all wrong. And it's costing us battery life – big time! With living costs on the rise, we're all looking for ways to make our tech last longer. So, here are three golden rules to keep your phone battery healthy and happy for years to come!

Clean the Charging Port

Dust and debris are the silent killers of your mobile devices and their batteries. Dust buildup in your phone's charging port can cause overheating or even prevent your device from charging altogether. Keeping your iPhone's charging port clean is a simple way to ensure your battery doesn't overheat and suffer long-term damage.

Here's our recommendation: Grab a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth and gently wipe around the charging port. To remove debris from inside the port, use a toothpick and carefully move it from side to side. Be super gentle, as this area is delicate! Once the debris is loose, use the cloth to wipe it away. Then, give it another go with a clean, dry toothpick to make sure you got everything.
Avoid Overcharging and Don't Let the Battery Drain Completely Before Charging
Keeping your iPhone plugged in all the time or letting the battery drain completely can quickly shorten its lifespan. We recommend keeping your battery level between 20% and 80% for optimal battery health.
Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Just like Goldilocks, your iPhone's battery likes things just right. Too cold (below 0°C) or too hot (above 35°C) can damage its lifespan. So, keep your phone out of direct sunlight, and when charging, find a cool, dry spot. Oh, and wired charging is generally better than wireless to avoid overheating.
